NWPM Academic Derby Team

Northwoods Park Middle School Academic Derby

What is it?

Academic Derby is a scholastic competition done in quiz-show format.  Teams of students from Onslow County Schools complete to earn points by answering questions.  The matches are taped in a studio located in Southwest High School and shown over local cable systems.  We will be competing in three matches and if we win we will be eligible for the playoff rounds.  The matches will be played from January through March. The matches will be podcast on channel 10 or you may view them on Onslow County Schools website.

Who can join?

The Academic Derby team consists of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.

When do we meet?

We will also meet after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00-4:00.  As a team, we can set up alternate practice days.

What do we do?

During this time, our team practices procedures for the matches, use example questions from the Campbell's Middle School quiz book along with the quiz bowl computer program, and discusses team concepts.

Why should I join?

Academic Derby is an academic club with an important objective of showing proof of educational growth in our students. If you are a student who wants to have fun, loves competition, and wants to show off all your factual knowledge, this club is for you!

If interested or have questions, please see Mrs. Ceklosky in room #9. We will begin tryouts Tuesday 8/30/16 and Thursday 9/1/16 at 3:00.
